Preying On Saint Ann

F
ront to the Church
Just below the figure of Christ One arm raised Two fingers up To the right precise Just above the Female holding an open book One of three False myth and piety On top of a small block Claws locked Sits With something of a haughty scowl Two shades of gray The wise and the still Owl To whom do you kneel? Shifting imperceptibly In the bright of day Slightly hunched Playing the angles and shadows Keeping the true face away Big yellow eyes Sometimes ringed red Horns no horns Front of the head Vanishings The rats and the raccoons making themselves scarce The cats are skittish And the cops in the precinct Feeding from the same dirty dish In the clutches of the See Line up the kiddies Let them read write and play What's beneath the basement What's in the tower? How much longer will it stay? Crosses Unicorns Symbols etched into the wall Owl You're preying on Saint Ann Peter and Paul You're preying on St Ann Chiseled stone Flesh and sand A candle for your fears As the sheep and the shepherds Rote lost olden prayers You're preying on Saint Ann Blessed is The ignorance of what now passes as man Preying On St Ann © 2009 Ahkenaton
