Mermaid Alone

It's broken trust and a shattered heart
Age-old ingredients
That keeps her apart
From the rest

There was once upon a time
Mankind and them were
Sharing the same coin
They were benevolent and shy
Always a song and twinkling eye
From the time they fell from the sky
So…
So long ago

Greed, superstition, power, jealous anger
Among other “alien” and human reasons
Somewhere along the shaded history
An invisible and tangible levee
Between us and the masters of the sea
The rare sighting on a stone
Mermaid
Together and alone
On a monster rock

Relegated to the status of legendary creature
This beautiful and intelligent water-flower
Far- flung stories across the mythological pages
Maidens, sailors and Island folk of all ages
Public fodder for the curious
While behind, the above top-secret scene
Walked a few, who knew
The true picture inside the fields of emerald green
A hill, a comb
A mermaid
All alone

Marlyne I can't recall
When they took "him" at all
The why, isn't hard to figure
It's never “cool” to lose a brother
The answers I seek are not here
And there's dragon ash
On our spot there
Now it seems like, the packs gone wild
There's no more innocence
In that old child
She ran away from me
Into a turbulent Caribbean sea
I can feel you still
Separated, together and alone
Mermaid
I may never, make it back home

It's raining in the city tonight
Rivulets off the glass
And I'm pining for wet sweet-grass
Standing on a black-gray rock
Water chasing through
My favorite ghaut
Shirtless, wind in my hair
A silent song
Tugging at my ear
You still feel the same
And that's not saying a lot
I can't discern
Who's alive and who's not
Some dream of genie
I of my queen
A mermaid
In the shadow of a tunnel
And Chances green
Alone

It's broken trust and a shattered heart
Age-old ingredients
That keeps her apart
From the rest

Saturday night in New York
It's raining
And I'm thinking of you
Marlyne
My
Ocean Queen

And a big, small Island stone
Mermaid
Alone

You still feel the same…
