The sand was still warm.
Black, wet, dry, clinging to my toes.
The water wanted to play.
Retreating slowly, then rushing back to catch me.
Slow-poke.
I'm way too quick, everybody knows.

The Sun is being executed again, gradually.
Bleeding orange and patches of red.
Bloodying the sky, gasping for breath,
as inch by inch, the horizon claims it's
rather large, circular head.

I don't live on this beach, but it could easily be home.
The Caribbean sea, endless sand, couple
of sea-birds and trees.
Surrounded by a lot of things I'm all alone.

She came out of nowhere.
Moving on the water with the grace of
a bird, gliding, easy like a dove.
A perfect stranger.
Caught by surprise, she sang my
name and I fell in love.

Fascinated.
Terrified.
Totally Mesmerized.
Rainbow hair and eyes that
shone like diamonds.
We became friends and together
we'd watch the death of a whole lotta suns.

Come with me Wayne, we'd be rich and
happy, she would sometimes say.
Fear.
Fear of the unknown.
That's probably why I decided to stay.

Summer of 89, the last time we met.
Two good friends.
Catching another bloody sunset.
I'll always be with you, her final words.
She never looked back, that was good-bye.
Tried to, but I couldn't watch her leave,
the wind had blown something into my eye.

The sun still dies here, daily.
I'd watch but there are tall buildings to the
back and front me.
Honking cars, wailing sirens and occasional
gun shots have replaced the lullaby of the
Caribbean sea.

Uchained and free like a prisoner.
An apartment on the fifth floor is
what passes for home.
They're long gone, the sand, the birds
and the trees.
Surrounded by millions of people I'm still all alone.

Time has done nothing to the memory.
Close my eyes twelve years later and I'm
startled by the clarity.
She's unforgettable.
Half fish, half human.
Stunningly gorgeous.
All woman.
My Ocean Queen.
Damn, I miss you...
