A "cat" showed up late the other night Out of the blue Sitting pretty and easy on a wall Peeking at me from the catbird's seat As our eyes meet From the closest rooftop Under the cover of darkness Ebony black with a dash of white At it's throat Defiant Outside the spotlight A dull gleam Some creatures aren't what they seem Shrugged... Closed the window and went to bed As my shadow filled my head It had the temerity to return last night Same place Close Arms reach almost The same song, the same dance Eyes following my eyes In the dark But tonight the presence is strong Something is wrong Sitting in the catbird's seat Waiting And inside My shadow prepares to go hunting It happened in a blink Blackness colliding without a sound Cat on the roof Boom Cat on the ground Wailing like a pig that got stuck by a knife Once Twice Silence As the umbra claims another life This morning It was gone Body and all Not a trace of an unfortunate “fall” Shape-changing Old-fashioned necromancy Whatever… It doesn't really faze me The Shadow That alien creation The king of intimidation It has no conscience No concept of mercy Simply the unassailable will To hunt Feed and kill In defense of and for Bill A cat showed up the other night Out of the blue Obviously it wasn't you or you Whoever, whatever The simple fact They aren't coming back No need to make a row My shadow It's the Cat's Meow The Cat's Meow - copyright © 2003 Ahkenaton all rights reserved |
