The Calling - For Marlyne

She has been lonely there
Longer than he's been here
Before he walked a tree lined ghaut
Chasing dreams and coconuts
Before the slave climbed up alone
Surrounded yet…
She was there, lonely upon a stone
Waiting and searching like he later would
For something they never quite understood
One of a kind
Two different creatures
Two different worlds
Two different lines
Connecting “like” souls and minds

It's taken him some time to recognize
His muse
Beyond the ever-changing disguise
The mirror
Looking beyond and back then
The magic inside his pen
One woman is
The women who sing
The gift of sight
The gift of song
The knack of write
She's been with him all along
Listen to the music lad
Then it stops
Listen to the lyrics lad
And in the morning when you rise
The story will be there behind your eyes
Love
War
Death and destruction
Love
Longing
Wanting
Dying
Love
Regret
Temptation
Redemption
Coming as if from thin air
Omnipresent
She continues to whisper
In his ear
He's been around the world and back
Searching for
Something
Never quite certain what
They love him
They don't
He loves some
Some he can't
Always falling
Coming up disappointed and empty
Once, twice
How many?
Before you realize there's nobody…
Else like her for you
Square one is the source
Of your perpetual blue

Acknowledging
What he always knew
Somewhere deep inside
Something they tried to hide
As time slips now to the side
And the calling
Becomes louder
Quieter
Stronger
It's not just her
He's bounded forever
To the fruits of a tree
A destiny
In shades of three
The relative, familiar lonely
Far below the branches of
genus Fraxinus
From dawn to dusk
A tug of sorts
Inaudible
Invisible
Hearts
Pulling
Merewif
Calling

ADDENDUM
It takes a lot of life to live life
She whispered to me
Recently
As the leaves change (red and white) and fly
As they wonder why
We cry
It's a rhetorical question
And the haunting
Continues
Old places
Familiar spaces
Green wrapped blue
To hear her say
I won't give up on you
It's a comforting and picturesque
Inaudible
Invisible
Haunting

This calling

And…
Beneath the approaching New Year light
One left eye is blood red tonight
