Betrayal

Betrayal
The subtle layers of an onion
Close your eyes
And look closely as truth peels away the lies
That shifty blur
No firm lines between friend and foe
That scent
Isn't that something relative you should know?

There are the usual questions and answers
Every defrauder has a convincing explanation
Each peel
It's own revelation
Standing in the midst of a storming night
There
A face
Faces
A new black light
Can anything make that right?

And so
As the tide turns outwards in
The awakening
Behind the fancy door
The shiny apple
A serpent festering at the core
Beholding your plight
Can anything make that right?

Remorse
The cart after the horse
You grinned and you ate
Willingly
Schemed and lusted
In the ugly bosom of hate
So, in hindsight
What price?
What price?
Can anything make that right?

Rise
Slayers
Rise
There's blood and redemption on my mind
Betrayal is an unforgivable crime
